Poetry & Afternoon TeaAbsolute beginner or just interested in learning new styles and approaches to writing your poetry? A tremendous opportunity to work with a full-time, prizewinning poet for a relaxed session full of ideas, inspiration, personal feedback and positive advice on writing. The workshop will particularly benefit those people who may not have brought their work/ideas/ambitions to a workshop before. Whatever your ability, you will benefit from this session under the friendly guidance of published poet, John Lindley. The focus throughout will be on writing, discussion and enjoyment in a friendly and non-intimidating atmosphere. Saturday 14th March 2020. 2pm – 4.30 pm. Bob Dylan expert, John Lindley, looks at the event that caused folk music’s most seismic shock and revolutionised rock forever. Connecting with Poetry Prizewinning poet John Lindley will lead poetry workshops that will be both directly and tangentially related to the themes of faith, belief and the human condition. The day will be stimulating, non-intimidating and fun. No poetry writing experience is necessary. Prior to the day’s workshops, John will do a reading of poems from his new collection, Love & Crossbones. The book has won third prize in the SPM International Poetry Competition. Crossing the Divide – local poet John Lindley will give an illustrated presentation of poems written in response to the the religious paintings of American artist Daniel Bonnell.  John will tell the story behind this remarkable collaboration. Friday 13th September at 7.30pm in St. Peter’s Church, Chapel Street, Congleton,.  Tickets £5 on the door or from the Tourist Information Centre . Price includes refreshments.

Pie, Pint and Music Night, The Old Saw Mill, Back River St., CW12 1HJ, Congleton. John Lindley and The Poachers. Highly original, but deeply rooted in the folk tradition with elements of rock and country, John Lindley’s evocative songs explore the vagaries of life – lovingly, wryly and, at times, angrily. Predominantly acoustic, but with the addition of electric instruments too, and featuring banjo, mandolin and slide guitar, the superb musicianship of his band, The Poachers, with their varied and innovative arrangements, ensures a memorable evening.
